Working on a new edition of My Other Car is a Spaceship
I'm working on editing MOCiaS and formatting it for release as a paperback in the next few weeks. Unlike the first three books released as paperbacks earlier this month, the MOCiaS update will have significant changes.
I've edited about 45% of the manuscript so far, but I'ved already expanded several scenes I felt needed more character development. I've also ex
panded a pivotal battle. The biggest objection I have seen in a couple of review comments is that the battle scenes are weak for a navy.
I agree; they are weak for battles between navies. However, as I pointed out in the book, these battles aren't between governmental navies, but between pirate ships and commercial vessels supported by what's essentially a private police force patrolling the trade routes. They wouldn't be as organized as a naval fleet with experienced flag officers. They wouldn't be as well armed. They wouldn't have carriers with dozens of fighters. But I did add some drones on both sides. Not a major change, but it does expand the scenes somewhat.
Also, a main character gets killed "offscreen" later in the book and that always bugged me. I haven't reached that part of the story yet in editing, but I'll see what I can do about that. The character deserves a heroic ending on-camera. So I plan to add a few dramatic scenes, for a proper send-off.
Aside from those additions, there are bound to be hundreds of minor rewrites where I feel a different turn of phrase is warranted.
