My fourth novel, My Other Car is a Spaceship, will be released in paperback format for the first time on October 15, 2026, along with an updated ebook version. But this is not simply the same book reformatted for print. It's a new edition with significant enhancements and additions. Note the slightly altered cover as well.

I've done something with the Second Edition (2E) that I've never done before.. Most of the reviewers of the First Edition (1E) were highly complimentary, but a vocal few were not. So I decided to massively re-edit the story to see if I could address the criticisms. Most of the negative comments point out that for a military sci-fi novel, the military action was somewhat weak. And they're right, but it was intentional. The book is listed on Amazon as military sci-fi because there's no category for "Merchant shippers fighting space pirates".

In the story, I point out that it isn't a clash of standing navies fighting a war, but rather an association of merchants who need protection from marauding space pirates. They create a sort of police force to protect the shipping lanes. As a result, the battles aren't formal military battles, but mostly small skirmishes. Space battles are not the primary focus of the story.

However, in the hopes of improving the reader experience for all readers, I expanded and "upgraded" several of the battle sequences, especially the main "winner take all" battle between the pirate fleet and the Merchants' Unity fleet. The story still doesn't employ world-class navy strategy, because it isn't supposed to. Pirates don't have admirals with decades of warfighting experience, and typically neither do police forces.

I also added more descriptive prose to better set some of the scenes, expanded the dialog in a few scenes, improved it in others, and--finally, after all these years--included a couple of short scenes that showed how one of the main characters died (previously without much explanation). No one asked for it but me. It bugged me for all these years. It’s not a big deal, but it provided the character with a bit more closure.

In all, I added about 2,000 words (13+ pages) to the story and probably rewrote another 2,000. Does this raise the quality of the story to something higher than before? I think so, but you be the judge.

I hope you enjoy My Other Car is a Spaceship, Second Edition. Let me know In the comments.

P.S. I have uploaded the manuscript for the Second Edition (2E) to both editions on Amazon. Thus if you had previously purchased the First Edition (1E) and you have updates turned on in your Kindle device, you should receive the new edition as a replacement for the original for free.
